Stitches & Things: My Story

Boy, have I missed blogging or what! Welcome back to my blog, friends! What was formerly known as Blanc Mode has now blossomed into Stitches & Things. This transformation has been in the making for quite some time, and I'm excited to finally share it with you! But first, I'll begin with a little back story...

For those of you who have been following along for quite some time now, you've known this space to be about personal style, petite fashion advice, and a couple of personal posts sprinkled in here and there.

While fashion is still something about which I am passionate, blogging solely about this topic was losing its luster. Much of the fashion blogging world operates thanks to sponsored posts, and while I can't say I've never been sponsored, seeing mostly these types of posts made me feel like I was living in a fraudulent blogging world. You no longer know if someone truly endorses whatever it is that they're ranting and raving about, or if they're doing so because they were paid a hefty sum. Or what about when you see a post that is so clearly unrelated to that blogger's niche? A fashion blogger professing her love about detox teas or candelabras? It was getting a little distracting, to say the least. It saddened me to have to preface many of my posts with "I promise this is not sponsored, I just love *insert loved item here* this much!" I was losing motivation, because things simply did not seem as genuine to me anymore, so how could I expect my readers to feel any differently?

While all of this was going through my head, I was also going through a rough patch in my life. My cousin-in-law (but we'll just call her my cousin 😊) over at Oysters and Purls inspired me to begin knitting in September, and I haven't looked back since! I quickly realized how absolutely therapeutic this hobby was. The gentle clicking of the needles, the repetitive motions, the feel of yarn between your fingers... not to mention, finishing a project that you make with your own hands is pretty gratifying. Not to be punny, but I was hooked.

One thing I realized, though, is that these passions of mine do not have to be mutually exclusive. Knitting can be, and often is, fashion. Knitting a cable-knit beanie for myself to top off a super-cute outfit? Sounds like fashion to me!

Another passion of mine which has constantly been growing is my love for travel. I was blessed to have traveled outside of the country twice in the summer of 2016, and since then, I've been doing a lot of domestic travel to visit family and friends before I hopefully begin graduate school in another year or so. I love documenting my travels as to share my photos with other people, and to be able to relive these memories each time I look back upon the photos.

Fashion, knitting, and travel. These are the three things which speak to me the most right now. But why limit myself, especially when I don't know what new creative hobby I may stumble upon in the future? Stitches & Things will be a place for any and all things creative, whether it includes my aforementioned three passions, or if I'm just writing for the heck of it.

Why the blog name Stitches & Things?

  • "Stitches," because they are present in both knitting and fashion
  • "& Things," because again, why limit myself to just knitting and fashion? I hope to continue to blog about my travels, and maybe even talk a little bit about body positivity and other more personal topics as well. The (blogging) world is my oyster!

Thank you so much for taking this journey with me. One thing that hasn't changed throughout all of this is my love for writing, and creating beautiful images to share with my followers. I can't wait to continue creating content for all of you, and to hear your thoughts as I do so!

And now, I'd love to hear from you. What makes your heart go pitter-patter? Is it knitting, fashion, and/or travel? Do you love to cook, or to embark on DIY home-improvement projects? Or maybe you're a novice photographer like myself, and get a rush out of shooting in perfect lighting? Regardless, it always inspires me to hear back from my readers! Feel free to comment below, shoot me an email, or send me a direct message on Instagram. :) Until next time!
