My Monthly Favorites

On My Mind
Today I successfully defended my thesis for the Psychology Honors program at my university! This research project has been in the works for over a year, so it was exciting to finally see it come to fruition. I don't think I've ever mentioned it on this blog, but I am an undergraduate senior, and am graduating in 10 days 😱(but who's counting?!). Anyway, my research interests are in Clinical Psychology, and the eating disorder/weight-related subfield in particular. My thesis was on acculturation and ethnic identity as they are related to body dissatisfaction through social media use (specifically Facebook). And yes, one of my results was that receiving few to no likes on photos of oneself (i.e. selfies) on Facebook leads to body dissatisfaction. My results are preliminary for now, but we'll keep running research participants and collecting data and revisit these results at a later time. :) In this age of social media, this is just a little reminder to not place so much value on the type of feedback you receive on Instagram, Facebook, or what have you; you are so much more than the amount of likes you receive! (Cheesy but true my friends)

I've recently been acquainted with a few fellow petite style bloggers, and have enjoyed connecting with them and reading their blogs. Check 'em out!

I've had my eye on these Steve Madden block heel sandals, but my patience for a sale was wearing thin ;P So being the savvy (or online-shopping addicted?) shopper that I am, I found an exact dupe. Ya'll, I can't even find a difference between these two sandals, with the exception of the heel height. Maybe if I saw them in person I could detect some minuscule variation, but online they look like twins but of two dramatically different prices. I'm excited to style these bad boys as the weather continues to warm up!

As I mentioned in this post, ever since I pared down my daily beauty routine, I've also been slowly replacing my products with natural alternatives as they've been running out. I let my skin breathe during the week, but for special occasions/going out on the weekends, I've finally discovered an easy foundation with amazing coverage! Part of my easier makeup routine is that I just don't like spending an exorbitant amount of time getting ready, so this Tarte powder foundation has been a life saver. Besides primer, this is a product that does it all and doesn't require liquid foundation or even concealer, for me at least. It also only took me almost 7 years to realize liquid foundation is no bueno for oily-prone skin, so powder is the way to go... whoops. Better late than never!

With Mother's Day coming up, here's a few things that I think your mother, grandmother, or maybe even you would love to receive!

I hope you guys enjoyed this post!
