Happy Memorial Day, all! Since this long weekend often signifies the (unofficial) start of summer for many, I thought it would be appropriate to share a laid-back, beachy outfit with you guys. These photos were taken near Bethany Beach in Delaware.

Last week I did something crazy and wore a floral shirt (though still a button down 😉), so I thought "Why stop now?!" and did something even crazier and wore a skirt (also still a button down). For the past year or so, I had renounced anything and everything that did not fit neatly under the category of tomboy-chic fashion, i.e. I said goodbye to skirts, dresses, fun prints, statement jewelry, and colors. While I don't see myself pulling out the statement necklaces or wearing fuchsia anytime soon, I've found ways to incorporate my love of menswear into traditionally feminine pieces (lace and now a skirt!). I've always believed that it's totally okay for personal style to be ever-changing, in fact, I say embrace it! It makes your sartorial choices that much more interesting. :)

I digress. Now, how to make the most of your vacation wardrobe. If you often wear neutrals like me (with the exception of this lilac Longchamp bag), you'll find it easier to mix and match using your entire vacation wardrobe. A button down not only serves its traditional purpose of being a shirt, but can also be a light jacket as well as a skirt! Turning this piece into a skirt was super easy; I buttoned a few buttons and stepped into it as if I were stepping into a skirt, and then tied the sleeves around my waist. This video also clearly demonstrates this. :)

There you have it- a staple piece that not only doubles as a shirt and a jacket, but triples as a shirt, jacket, and skirt!

Do you have any tips and tricks that help you make the most of your vacation (or otherwise) wardrobe? I'm always looking for new ideas!

B.P. turtleneck ($$$$) / H&M shirt (similar from Gap & Macy's) / Longchamp gifted by a friend (more here- purple & navy) / JustFab sandals (similar from Gap & Topshop) / BP sunnies (love these!)
