Silk Blouse Review: Banana Republic and Everlane

Hello all! After staring into my closet looking for the perfect warm-weather, professional blouse a couple of weeks ago, I felt like I had nothing. After realizing that I love menswear-inspired pieces (in this post and this post), I started shopping around for these pieces. Naturally, it was still winter when I had this revelation, so my spring/summer wardrobe barely has any short sleeves! (I'm talking like 3 or 4 short sleeved blouses, y'all. This is a dilemma). Thus began my search for a black silk blouse.

Banana Republic black silk pocket blouse / size XS / $79.50 (Extra 40% with code BRSUMMER)

I ordered this Banana Republic blouse a couple of weeks ago. It came in, I tried it on, and from first impression I already wasn't loving it. This came as a huge surprise to me since I have such a love affair with the store! The blouse has draped cap sleeves, and an overall drapey look to the blouse. The buttons are also concealed, which may totally be your thing but I love the texture and interest that buttons give to a blouse. Although I typically don't wear super fitted tops, I felt that this was a little too oversized for my petite frame. It may work well on non-petite women, but for me, it was a no-go.

After my slight disappointment with the BR blouse, I decided to give Everlane a try. This store is known for its transparent pricing, i.e. providing customers with the knowledge of how much an item cost to make. Anyway, it's much easier to tell from the photo of my profile, but this blouse fits so much better than the BR one. It's the perfect amount of looseness without overwhelming my petite frame, but also appearing professional if need be. I wouldn't say it necessarily has cap sleeves, but they are definitely shorter than regular short sleeved blouses. As seen in the photo below, this blouse has a breast pocket (as does the BR blouse, but the Everlane pocket pops off the shirt a little more). I also love the fact that you can see the buttons! The BR blouse is more elegant in comparison, but for those of you who live in jeans like I do, I think that this Everlane blouse is perfect for dressing up or down.

Also wearing in this post:
Gap jeans (similar) / Nordstrom BP flats

Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful weekend! Xoxo
